Man in Carriage
I even less of an idea of who this is than in the rest of my grandfather's
photographs. I am almost positive that it is not my grandfather himself—the
facial structure is just not the same. It is probably one of my grandfather's
friends or relatives come to visit in a new carriage. I would dearly like to have
dates on these photos. My guess is that they were all taken about the same time
before 1920. My grandmother's youngest child (Aunt Margaret) was born in 1927.
Her oldest (uncle Harold) was born in 1914. I think it most likely that the
baby in these photographs is my uncle Harold or one of the other older children.
Also I wonder how long did people use horse-drawn carriages? Was it already
somewhat old-fashioned (and hence the reason for this photo) when this was taken,
or was it still common? Answers to all of these questions would help us to date
the photographs more precisely.
