(October 2, 1921 – July 22, 2005)
Vernie is on the left with his younger brother Clarence (my father) and his younger sister Margaret. Taken in the late 20's or early 30's.
Vernie, who is home from the Navy on a visit, is on the right, next to Clarence. This photo says "1942" on it.
This is Vernie's photo and the accompanying article from a clipping marked "1944" in a Born family album, probably saved from the Cavalier or Grafton newspaper. Photos of Harold and Eugene are also included with the original article.
3 Sons of Crystal Couple in Service
CRYSTAL, N. D.—(SPECIAL)—Three sons of Mr. and Mrs. Herman F. Born, farmers east of here, are in the armed forces. Staff Sgt. Eugene entered service in August, 1942, and after serving in several camps attended the Boeing School of Aeronautics for several months. He was then sent to Charleston, S. C., as a mechanic in the army air force. He came here recently for a 14-day furlough. Staff Sgt. Harold, who recently spent his furlough here, was inducted into the army in July, 1942, and is now at Big Spring, Tex., in the bomb sight maintenance division. Vernon, AEM second class, enlisted in the navy in July, 1942. He received his first training at the Great Lakes Station and is now on the Gilbert Islands.
This is Vernie with his nephew (and my cousin) Paul, his brother Harold's son. This is probably from the late 50's or early 60's.
