(June 24, 1916 – December 13, 1987)
Eugene is in the middle, between his brother Harold and sister Marie. This was taken in the late 20's or early 30's.
Eugene on the farm in the early or mid-40's when he had returned home from the Army for a visit.
This is Eugene's photo and the accompanying article from a clipping marked "1944" in a Born family album, probably saved from the Cavalier or Grafton newspaper. Photos of Harold and Vernie are also included with the original article.
3 Sons of Crystal Couple in Service
CRYSTAL, N. D.—(SPECIAL)—Three sons of Mr. and Mrs. Herman F. Born, farmers east of here, are in the armed forces. Staff Sgt. Eugene entered service in August, 1942, and after serving in several camps attended the Boeing School of Aeronautics for several months. He was then sent to Charleston, S. C., as a mechanic in the army air force. He came here recently for a 14-day furlough. Staff Sgt. Harold, who recently spent his furlough here, was inducted into the army in July, 1942, and is now at Big Spring, Tex., in the bomb sight maintenance division. Vernon, AEM second class, enlisted in the navy in July, 1942. He received his first training at the Great Lakes Station and is now on the Gilbert Islands.
Taken sometime in the mid-60's, this photo shows Eugene and Vernie on the farm with Margaret's three boys and four of Harold's daughters.
